Our Story

Alex Friehauf established his own firm in San Diego in 1977. The son of a carpenter, Alex Friehauf found architecture a natural extension of his childhood. He helped build Disneyland then helped cut his architectural teeth designing schools and commercial buildings while working with a firm in Los Angeles. In 1969, Friehauf moved to San Diego where he worked with Dale Neagle for several years, his focus gradually switching to residential.

29 years ago, Alex’s son Craig joined the firm, which then became Friehauf Architects. The team brings together the over 45 years of experience of Alex and the new unique ideas of Craig. With the Associate Designer Lesley Schmidt, Friehauf Architects has combined experience of over 80 years in the field of Architecture.
